In the case of a disaster, it's important to be prepared to take action in order to mitigate the potential impacts. On this page, you'll find the resources that will help you take preemptive action, and options to pursue in case you find yourself in an emergency.

How To Purchase Flood Insurance

To find out if you are in a floodway, please visit the online DNR map service here. Call your insurance company or insurance agent, the same person who sells your home or auto insurance. If you need help finding a provider go to this page or call the National Flood Insurance Program at 877-336-2627. You can also visit Indiana Flood Insurance's website for more information here.

Emergency Resources

  • The Individuals and Households Program (IHP) offers direct assistance to qualified uninsured or under-insured individuals and households that have been affected by a disaster. This program includes financial assistance as well as direct housing assistance. Click here for a more in-depth explanation.
  • The Small Business Administration (SBA) can provide low-interest loans to help with disaster recovery. Eligibility information and further details on the SBA can be found on their website
  • Resources for Individuals with Disabilities can be found here, including emergency preparedness assistance.

  • Emergency Shelter: Options can be found by visiting American Red Cross, or Salvation Army, or by texting SHELTER and your zip code (for example, “SHELTER 46064”) to 4FEMA (43362).
